Park Detail: Magic Kingdom - Adventureland

Adventureland is our favorite place to start your day and immerse yourself in what the Magic Kingdom has to offer. It has a great mix of rides and attractions mixed with one of the most sought after snack offerings. The nostalgia factor is through the roof as this was one of the earliest developed lands and has kept most of its offerings since their opening.

In the Park Detail series, we will be taking a much more in-depth look at each of the 4 theme parks of Walt Disney World. This series is meant to inform our readers on what is available and where you can find it at each park. We will break it up into sections, so that you can easily find information quickly.

Hit the Castle Hub and Turn Left

This might be the best piece of advice that we give any Magic Kingdom goer. It has shown to be the most wide open area in the morning as most people in the park will rush to the most popular attractions (you should already have FastPasses for 3 of them, good planning). Adventure land combines three themes in its section, but they aren't official "areas". As you pass over the bridge by Crystal Palace, you enter though the gates to the Jungle section of this land. A few steps farther gets you to a quick stop in the city market of Agrabah, the setting of Aladdin. Then you can hop on a magic carpet over to the seas of the Caribbean. Adventure awaits no matter where you land.

The Jungle - Like any good jungle, you enter this area and are greeted by food?.? OK, whatever sells another Dole Whip Disney, but in all reality one of the most under-rated dining options in the Magic Kingdom greets you in Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. This table service restaurant teems with the flavors of the Jungle, more specifically South America, Africa, and Asia, and themes accordingly with the Jungle Cruise (more on this in a minute). It has a variety of items on the menu and can be snagged as a day of reservation most times through the year. Be on the lookout for a ton of Easter eggs, fun references to other Disney people or attractions, scattered throughout the restaurant. Sunshine Tree Terrace offers sweet treats in the form of fruit whips and is one of the places the you can find the legendary pineapple whip. Swiss Family Treehouse is a walk through attraction that offers unique views of the area and of the Castle Hub and was inspired by the film of the same name. Last, but certainly not least, is the Jungle Cruise. This boat ride travels the great rivers of the world and condenses it down to a manageable time. The highlight of your journey, or the annoyance (you ride it and let us know), are the skippers. These dry-humored boat runners attempt to lighten up your perilous journey with their dad joke style banter. The Jingle Cruise, cleverly named holiday edition, tries to put lipstick on the pig by decorating it and telling new bad jokes.

The City Market of Agrabah - Surroundings change in a hurry during your visit to Adventureland and your journey now presents you with some shopping and the chance to meet Aladdin and Jasmine. You can catch a flying carpet at the Magic Carpets of Aladdin which offers a ride similar to what you would find with Dumbo or the Astro Orbiter. Aloha Isle is the Dole hosted treat stand that is the official home of the pineapple whip and this is also where you will find one of the shortcuts through to Frontierland. The Enchanted Tiki Room brings a cool relief to the Florida sun while you are serenaded by some of the oldest audio-animatronics on property. It was an opening day attraction and will always have a place in the hearts and schedules of Disney fans.

Port Town of the Caribbean - Be on the lookout for pirates of all sizes as you enter this area that is home of Pirates of the Caribbean. The long, dark boat ride is a favorite of Disney goers and can command long wait times especially after your traditional meal times (1-3 and 6-8). It offers and nice cool journey through multiple scenes of Pirate's lore. This ride and Space Mountain actually bumped back the development and opening of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad almost 10 years. There is a small shop at the exit of the ride that offers you Pirates of the Caribbean toys and apparel along with a meet and greet with Captain Jack Sparrow. Tortuga Tavern offers a Caribbean inspired menu that includes turkey legs and hot dogs, really???. Finally, A Pirate's Adventure awaits right before you get to Frontierland. This interactive game gives you a chance to complete a self-guided quest through Adventureland.

As you can see, there is a lot to see and do at the Magic Kingdom. From Adventureland, you can find pathways to Frontierland and back to the Castle Hub. From these areas you can access the rest of the park and you can find more than enough to do to fill at least a couple of days. Once you get an idea of what you want to do, check out our 1 day touring recommendations to get an idea of how we navigate the park to get the most out of a single day.
